At the roasting house, we are proud to visit the farm in 2019, and we were really impressed by the efforts of Don Bernardo and his family Solano due to the efforts they make to ensure high quality coffee cultivation.
The history of the farm begins nearly 150 years ago, with Don Miguel Solano. The farm was grown in many things such as corn, beans, and coffee beans for the personal use of the Solano family. Don Miguel was teaching his son Roman to grow coffee, until Roman grew up and took over the management of the farm after Miguel's death and began turning it into a coffee farm completely.
The farm is located in a small village called El Sabito, in the city of Chimaltenago within Guatemala. The altitude of this farm ranges from 1,600 meters at the lowest point to 1900 meters as the highest point above sea level. Many coffee species are grown on this farm such as: red and yellow bourbon, catora, katwe, and catemurs. Most of the coffee grown here is exposed to the sun directly, with a temporary cover, this process allows to know the strong roots and take care of them and get rid of weak roots early. On this farm you will find roots that produce coffee that is more than 60 years old, and trees that are more than 150 years old.
This farm attracts green coffee lovers due to the distinctive soil qualities there, and because the farm is located at an altitude of 1900 meters above sea level. Also, the current farmer, Don Bernardo, is a barista champion twice in a row, representing Guatemala during the 2018 Amsterdam and Boston 2019 championships.
